Greater Internet Dickwad Theory
I saw this a few weeks back and was wishing I’d saved it to share. Imagine my delight this morning when it popped up on one of my regular message boards!
I spend a LOT of time on The Nest, a message board for newlyweds. I swear, I never knew how cruel women could be until I found this board. Granted, I’ve made some amazing friends and learned a lot, but I am constantly amazed at how women interact with each other. Not to get all Naomi Wolfe on everyone, but damn. WE are the ones who are holding us back. You want to complain about the glass ceiling? It’s not men that are keeping us from our rightful place in positions of power, it’s US. Just look at the different reactions to Sarah Palin versus Hillary Clinton. Granted, a lot of women hate Palin for her unapologetically anti-women views, but that’s the point. Women who love Palin love her because she’s fierce, and smart, and pretty. No one would ever argue that Clinton is not fierce or smart, but she struck out on the third one. And that’s the aspect that many female Hillary-Haters(tm) gravitated toward. They mocked her laugh, her pantsuits, her jewelry, her hint of cleavage, for Christ’s sake. Even women who agreed with her politics loved to bash her for her personality, her philandering husband, her cankles. Do I think she was the right person for the job? No, and while I’m glad she did not get the Democratic nomination, I feel profoundly sorry for what she went through. And ashamed of my “sisters” for making it that much harder for the next driven, qualified, and average-looking woman to eke out a highest-office-in-the-land victory.
Wow, that wandered a bit. In short, women are mean.
